Creativity on the Coast

Beach and sea-inspired art and craft for children and their grown ups

    Saturday 1st August 2026  to Friday 7th August 2026

Space is available on this event!

    Creativity by the Coast poster

Join us for a relaxed, creative week particularly aimed at families with young children aged 3 - 11. Everyone can get involved with art and craft activities inspired by the sea, including printmaking, textiles art, painting and collage.

Adults will be hands on with the kids but will also get the opportunity to express their creativity.

We will take advantage of our seaside setting, explore sustainable art and craft materials, and enjoy the comforts of the purpose-built studio. No special skills or experience required - art is for all!

Ruby Runnalls Palmer and Simon Abbott both work in higher education and have experience facilitating creative sessions with children of pre school and primary school age, as well as adults. Our creative facilitators Simon and Ruby on the beach below Othona

Simon's creative practice combines printmaking and collage and he is a keen researcher - topics include creative research methods, utopias, music, pubs, and collage as a tool for self-knowledge. Simon believes we are all creative and is interested in how we bring that to our day jobs, whatever the industry or sector.

Ruby was raised by four parents with art degrees, and grew up with a passion for galleries and museums. Her creative practice focuses on textile design, interiors, 'fibre arts' and traditional textile based crafts, with the principle of sustainability underpinning everything. She takes inspiration from around the world and is really interested in the social, political history of different movements, techniques, and materials.

Simon and Ruby came to Othona West Dorset with their 3 year old daughter last summer, but Ruby has been part of the community since she was 11, having attended many 'Art Weeks' as a teenager with her family.
