Songs to Celebrate Midsummer

Singing together with ace teacher Suus Gooch - for connection, harmony and joy

    Thursday 11th June 2026  to Sunday 14th June 2026

Space is available on this event!

Suus Gooch teaching songs in the open air on a summer day

Join choir leader Susannah (“Suus”) Gooch for a sun-fuelled weekend of joyful harmony singing.
As the days reach their longest and the sun it's highest, we’ll gather to learn songs that celebrate the life and energy of this magical time of year.

Expect three and four part harmony songs, both long and short, known and unknown, all taught by ear in Suus' friendly, fun, accessible style. No experience is needed.

We'll spend time each morning singing together in the chapel, with the afternoon free to explore the beach, swim in the sea, or relax in the shade with a book... there is much to do! In the evenings, we might sing again before we eat, or visit St Catherine's chapel to explore the beautiful acoustics. After supper we will have some optional informal song-based entertainment - either a sing-a-long with the piano, or a few rounds of the infamous Song Pong game.

Suus' workshops are about the connection, presence and joy that arise through shared song. She brings expert musicality and a light energy to create sessions that will have you humming all the way home, invigorated by feet-tapping rhythms and beautiful harmonies.

Suus is a choir leader based near Bristol. As a former director of a choir at the University of Gloucestershire and co-director of the Gasworks Choir in Bristol, Suus is also an accomplished song arranger, ceilidh leader and violinist. She is a Natural Voice practitioner, meaning her workshops are open to all regardless of musical background or experience. Everyone's voice is welcome - all you need is a willingness to come and learn.

Feedback on Suus' recent visit to Othona: "A joyous few days of singing led by the brilliant Suus, delicious food, and warm kind company."  "Everything is wonderful!"
