Accommodation

Welcome to Community House

Community House

Community House is a welcoming stone building with an open fireplace, the older part dating from the 1920s. There’s nothing ‘posh’ about it; it feels much more like a large family home than a hotel. We have a mixture of single, twin, double and family rooms – 14 in all.

None of the rooms has en-suite facilities – there are plenty of shared washrooms – but almost all rooms have wide views of the garden and the sea. Here are some photos of our bedrooms!

Two of the ground floor bedrooms are such that people with mobility issues have step free access to bathrooms and other common areas.

Furnishings are simple and comfortable – not all out of the latest catalogue! The community sitting room is a great place to relax, converse, play (games or music) or just enjoy the log fire.

The dining room is where you eat in company with other visitors and the resident core community. We provide three meals a day. Good food – freshly made and companionably shared – builds community. Everybody staying with us plays some small part in making that possible, peeling vegetables perhaps, or laying tables.

In our busiest family weeks we can take up to 37 people. At other times anything between 12 and 20 is more usual. The core community live in separate accommodation on site.

The Chapel…and other special places

Our chapel is a beautifully light space, flexible in use and peaceful in atmosphere. It embraces many purposes, from concert to seminar, from dance to art exhibition. And our daily rhythm of morning and evening gatherings (‘Seedtime’ and ‘Harvest’) maintains its meditative, prayerful character.

Our library offers a superb range of books and a quiet spot to read, write… or doze!

Across the lawn from community house is our beautiful multi-purpose Four Seasons Studio

Our terrace looks out over the sea.
