You're considering being a Member of Othona?

That's great! We love to welcome new people into belonging in this way.

There have been Members of the Othona Community since its earliest days. Now in 2026 membership offers new benefits and a simpler way in.

On joining a Member receives:

  • A Welcome Aboard Pack including the two books our founder Norman Motley wrote before his death in 1980: Much Ado About Something and Letters to a Community.
  • Access to special events for members at both centres and to regular Members’ Bulletins.
  • Eligibility to serve on local centre management committees and/or the board of trustees.
  • The potential to receive extra communications, consultations, special offers etc.

What does it cost?

There will be no annual subscription. New Members pay a one-off joining fee of £15. (But if you were already a paid-up Member of Othona in July 2026 you don't have to pay this.) We will keep all members regularly in the picture about the Community's finances and needs; any further money you contribute will be at your own discretion.

Member's Declaration

By registering as a Supporter Member (also known as Member) of the Othona Community, I declare my support for the values expressed in this Mission Statement:

“Othona is an open and inclusive Community rooted in the Christian faith, drawing on a wealth of other inspirations. We welcome people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and beliefs to our Centres on the quiet coasts of Essex and Dorset. Sharing in the daily rhythm of work, worship, study and play, we seek personal renewal and glimpses of the sacred. In community we explore the relationship between faith and life, encouraging one another in caring for the world and its people.”

As a Member it will be my aim:

  • To visit an Othona centre when I can
  • To help maintain and develop the Othona Community, by some or all of: my interest, ideas, voluntary help, financial support, thoughts and prayers
  • To carry the positive experience of community I’ve found at Othona into my everyday life
  • To help spread awareness of Othona and its activities

I understand that:

  • My personal details will be held digitally on a CRM database in compliance with GDPR legislation and Othona will not communicate them to any third party
  • I will be invited to renew my membership at five yearly intervals
  • I can resign from membership at any time
  • I can choose how much of the Welcome Aboard Pack I would like to receive
