Quiet Week with Nicky Temple
Not a silent retreat, but the tranquillity and inspiration you may need
Tuesday 10th November 2026 to Sunday 15th November 2026
Space is available on this event!

Our Quiet Weeks give you loads of unprogrammed space to use as you wish. But all within the welcoming context of community meals, shared times in chapel and interesting company. These are not silent retreats, but you'll find certain times of day and parts of the building will be kept talk-free.
Quiet Weeks are gently led by experienced guides – on this occasion we are delighted to welcome back Nicky Temple who writes:
"I’m really thrilled to be offering another retreat as an Othona Quiet Week. What a gift it is to take time out to be still, refreshed, restored and find The Divine waiting amongst the lives we are living.
We will be giving space to storytelling over the course of four days. With four poems as reference we will journey through the seasons of our lives telling our stories of suffering, grief and endings as well as those of joy, hope and contentment. Each poem will invite you to reflect on different aspects of your life, looking back, noticing the the present and looking a little way ahead. You will have the opportunity to delve more deeply into what brings you life, what has been painful and challenging and what hopes and dreams are still waiting to unfold.
Using the tools of guided meditation, song, movement, lectio-divina, silence, ritual and group storytelling we will enter a safe, supportive community and hold each other in love and kindness.
Having led many retreats now, I am convinced that telling our stories in a safe space and allowing ourselves to be seen more deeply, is one of the most powerful things we can do for our healing and freedom. It never ceases to amaze me how rich this can be for everyone - both the listening and the sharing.
I’m really looking forward to entering this sacred space with you and seeing what Love will do amongst us.
As for me, I'm drawn towards a contemplative spirituality in which stillness, silence, centering prayer and connection with nature are highly valued, with more liturgically focussed practices. My faith has become more integrated into the here and now, and the line between sacred and spiritual has disappeared – for me wild swimming, eating with friends and cuddling our Yellow Labrador are all spiritual practices.
I still find myself rooted in the christian tradition and am a mystic at heart and intentionally walk this path, gaining more understanding of the depths of the mystic's road as I travel. I frequent places of unfamiliarity and mystery knowing that they contain great gift. As part of this journey, God has many names which I discover to be liberating and which offer me great richness, safety, comfort and belonging."
