Nurturing the Beloved Community
How can we build and sustain Life Together despite fragmentation, loneliness and ecological crisis?
Friday 29th January 2027 to Monday 1st February 2027
Space is available on this event!

Jonathan Herbert has lived the last 30 years in intentional communities. His experience at the Pilsdon and Hilfield communities in Dorset has been added to by insights from visiting projects in Gambia and the occupied West Bank, as well as his work as a chaplain to Gypsies and Travellers. He has been an activist with Insulate Britain, Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil and Christian Climate Action.
From this rich tapestry of experience Jonathan asks what are the foundations of a sane and hopeful shared life in our increasingly turbulent times. And key to the resources he draws on are the ancient Christian traditions of contemplative prayer.
His second book Nurturing the Beloved Community was published In July 2026. One reviewer welcomed "a wise, challenging, heartfelt and inspiring reflection on how to nurture loving community within our personal lives, our varied relationships and within wider society... Often painfully honest, it offers hope for a future lived differently."
Are you longing for encouragement to live in ways that are relational, rooted and resilient? Within a church, a community of some sort, a family or neighbourhood, are you wanting more than just words and ideas? You will rarely meet anyone who 'walks his talk' as authentically as Jonathan Herbert. Do come and be part of the conversation.
This is a bargain weekend: three nights for the price of two! Sessions led by Jonathan will finish at lunchtime on Sunday. The remains of that day and Monday morning we can continue with the theme informally, but if you need to leave after Sunday lunch you won't be missing the programmed sessions. And if you share a room there's a further discount.
